Meet The Team

We select our staff for their integrity, friendliness, skill and professionalism but they also must share our ethos and values of love, compassion and respect for people as individuals. To maintain our very high standards of care, we take great time and effort in the recruitment and selection of our staff.

To ensure that we have a great team, our philosophy is ‘employ caring people – rather than – employing people to care’. Our approach focuses on spiritual as well as physical well-being and we arrange regular visits from various church groups to provide support and encouragement.

Byway is a family-owned business, privately operated by husband-and-wife team – Nirmal and Jas Chahal. They are experienced healthcare operators with a passion for providing excellent quality of care and a homely environment for their residents. In addition to Byway House, they own The Beeches Nursing Home and Highgrove House Care home which provide residential, nursing and dementia care in Worthing. Nirmal obtained PhD in Cancer Research and worked for the NHS for over 20 years. Nirmal and Jas provide an oversight for all 3 homes supported by the full management teams in place at each of their homes.

Nirmal: each of our homes has been established for over 40 years, with a strong local reputation, and are successfully run by very experienced Management and Care Teams, who are fully dedicated and focused on best serving the needs of their residents and providing the highest standard of care. Our residents chose to make these homes their own home due to the excellent care and homely environment we offer. All our residents come to us through word-of-mouth referrals and due to the outstanding reputation we have in the area. We provide a variety of activities to meet the spiritual and physical well-being requirements and lifestyle tastes of all our residents. We put the person in the driving seat of their care.

Marcia Hall – chef

I started at Byway in 2014 as the chef; I’ve spent my whole career caring for and cooking for residents, beginning as a night worker at a prior establishment. My love of cooking led me to a new work path, and I’ve spent many years providing home-cooked, tasty, healthy meals for residents. I also work a second job at our local butcher, where I create various buttery pastries and quiches, which I then duplicate for our Byway House residents. I like socialising with our residents and cooking meals according to their preferences.
